Dalen

Nestled amidst majestic mountains and valleys, at the far end of Telemarkskanalen in Telemark, lies the grand Dalen Hotel. Straight out of a fairytale, this iconic hotel has been welcoming guests since 1894, when royalty and prominent figures arrived to indulge in its exquisite offerings. The hotel has been preserved in its original state, featuring 49 historic rooms, a magnificent fireplace lounge, unique salons, and the prestigious Restaurant Bandak.

The hotel is surrounded by a splendid garden landscape offering unique opportunities for relaxation and well-being, which can be paired with a sauna experience at the architecturally stunning Soria Moria.

The hotel serves set 3- and 5-course menus from 6:00 PM every evening. We recommend that guests reserve their preferred time as early as possible.

To maintain the regal atmosphere, the hotel has a dress code after 6:00 PM. Elegant attire such as trousers, skirts, dresses, shirts, blazers, and dress shoes are required. Blazers are available for loan, and shirts can be purchased at the hotel if desired. If needed, luggage delivery can be arranged from Bavaria Stavanger to Dalen Hotel according to the guest's wishes, ensuring that formal attire is waiting on the bed upon arrival.

During the day, shorts, sandals, and t-shirts are acceptable.

Starting from Stavanger, Dalen Hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of what Western Norway and Telemark have to offer, with winding roads, mountain passes, and breathtaking natural experiences for us on two wheels. The trip can be planned as a round tour via Røldal to experience fjord landscapes, but we recommend taking one of the routes via Suleskaret, which leads you through mountainous terrain on narrow, winding roads.

In summary, this is an enchanting journey that comes highly recommended.

Skrivargarden

At the end of the road, nestled on a southern slope just above the fjord, lies Skrivargarden – a historical gem dating back to 1790. The estate’s roots stretch as far back as the 14th century, and it served as an official magistrate’s residence for over 200 years. Here, you’ll have the chance to stay in grand, historic surroundings; the building has been newly restored, yet its distinctive 18th-century charm remains intact. The house features several salons, furnished with antiques and classic furniture that create a truly unique atmosphere. There’s also a grand banquet hall adorned with hand-painted oil wallpaper depicting shipwrecks, hunting scenes, ruins, and figures with both oriental and European characteristics.

Skrivargarden offers accommodation in 10 individually decorated bedrooms, each named after former magistrates, noblemen, and judges. All rooms feature handcrafted beds in the Louis Seize style. Most rooms have private, modern bathrooms, updated in harmony with the house’s history and surroundings, and offer views of the garden, fjord, or mountains. After a restful night’s sleep, you can enjoy your first cup of coffee of the day in the Library or by the fireplace in the hearth room. With close proximity to both fjord and mountain, Skrivargarden is an ideal base for a wide range of activities.

Just a few minutes' walk from the house is the Hjalma River, a flood river offering opportunities for salmon and trout fishing from mid-June through August. A short ten-minute drive takes you to Eidselva, a renowned river with crystal-clear water known for its large salmon. Cultural experiences are also within reach, with the Nordfjord Opera House and Sagastad just a short distance away.

This journey will take you through some of the finest landscapes Norway has to offer for two-wheel enthusiasts, featuring narrow fjords, mountain passes, and natural scenery unmatched by other tours. The package includes two nights at Skrivargarden.

Ullensvang

This fantastic tour is located in our local area, and we highly recommend it. You can choose from several routes that showcase the best of what Rogaland and Hardanger have to offer, with plenty of sights along the way to stop and enjoy. Not to mention, the winding roads feel as if they’ve been carved out of the mountains, providing an exhilarating day on the motorcycle.

In the itinerary, you’ll see that this can be done as a "round trip" if you prefer not to take the same route both ways. Both routes are well-suited for motorcycle riding and feature natural viewpoints and dining stops along the way if you want to stretch your legs. If you’re up for a slightly longer ride, the route can include a detour through Sauda, taking the Røldalsveien 520, which is possibly the most beautiful stretch of the National Tourist Route Ryfylke. This road takes you through dramatic and ever-changing landscapes and is only open during the summer months.

Our package includes a motorcycle rental along with your desired number of nights at the beautiful Hotel Ullensvang. The standard package is a weekend rental with 2 nights at Hotel Ullensvang, allowing you to spend all of Saturday exploring Hardanger, perhaps combined with activities that can be booked directly at the hotel.

Bavaria Stavanger is also happy to customize packages for those traveling in groups or if you want a different combination of days and overnight stays. In our experience, a weekend is never enough time on two wheels in Hardanger.
